A to Z

20 weeks in and half way there!

(We moved the due date to a week later)

By now we have of course been making the ‘list’ of names we would consider for the little one.  I have of course been sworn to secrecy about our ‘list’ so there will be no sharing of that.  Coming up with the names and short listing is a major undertaking.  The www is our main source for this project.

The most interesting and useful site is the Baby Name Wizard.  This site lets you search for a name(s) and gives you the ranking/popularity for years previous.  I’m not big into the name game but this site is kind of fun.  For example, search ’Holden’ and you will find that it was ranked 356 in 2005.  Now if you had the last name Hiscock you would have a kid named ‘Holden Hiscock’.  Some of you may find the humour in this.  Some of the more popular names for 2005 are Ava (ranked 9th), Andrew (ranked 6th), Abigail (ranked 4th), Zoe (ranked 59).  Perhaps a random Name Generator is more your style of searching.  Or if you really want to be different try the Baby Name inventor

The good old standby site for baby information is the Baby Center site that has articles on how to pick a name for your baby and what you should consider.

I will leave you with some of the names i’ve heard in the past:

  • Harry Beavers
  • Phat Ho
  • Harden Long
  • Allota Faviga
  • Dyck Brown

The search continues for the perfect name…

Chocolate Cake

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 6:02 pm

Sarah’s Chocolate Cake

  • 2 1/4 C flour
  • 1 2/3 C sugar
  • 2/3 C cocoa
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 C water
  • 3/4 C butter (room temp)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  1. heat oven to 350F
  2. grease bundt pan
  3. mix all ingredients on low then beat on high for two minutes
  4. add chocolate chips if you need more chocolate
  5. pour into pan
  6. bake for about 30-35min

Top the cake with your choice of icing.  This cake is amazing and you may even want to make one for you and one for someone else.  You may not want to share this one.  It may not last long enough for you to share.

To enjoy:

Slice the cake into two(one piece for now and one for later), pour a glass of milk and have at it!

Look look it moved

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 5:44 pm

Today was structural ultrasound day.

Good news is that everything looked normal.  You know, ten fingers, ten toes, one head, that sort of thing.  Bad news is that our baby does not have any lips.  Well, not yet anyway.  There is not any/enough fat on the baby to see these features.  Or maybe it just doesn’t have any lips.  It was also very hard to tell the gender of the little one.  We may have come too early to get the imaging done.  We have decided that we had fun so we are going to book another appointment for when the baby has lips and is more developed.

Watching the image on the screen was pretty cool.  We have got a very active baby on our hands or more correctly in the belly.  It looked as though it was running a marathon and having a boxing match at the same time.  We’re told it is going to be a front side sleeper.  The tech was also kind enough to mention that our baby emptied it’s bladder often as it was hard to see on the image.  Then she quickly blurted, “you are going to be changing a lot of diapers.”  I’m going to have to revisit the cloth vs disposable discussion in the Forum.

The ultrasound is a common way of making sure your baby is structurally ’all there’ and is traditionally a 2D image.  You know, the black and white image on the screen that seems to be moving.  Now there is a 3D and 4D image that can be done.  It is a new way of seeing your baby in a 3 dimensional view.  The 2D is still used to see the bones and what not.  At this point in time (17-18weeks) the baby really just looks like an alien.  So, i’m not sure if the 3D adds any excitement to the experience but it does make the image more realistic.
