It’s a ‘Dilly’!

Filed under: The Beginning — Doc @ 7:00 pm

38 weeks prego!  (aka one week overdue)

The belly is extra large and bears a striking resemblance to a dilly bar (hence the constant cravings for Dairy Queen).  Time’s up little one…

37 weeks prego!

Baby Center Pregnancy Calendar

Doc’s clothing options seem to be diminishing by the day which is a pretty good indication that the end is near, so we hope.  I believe 37-38 weeks is considered ’term’ and the baby may be ready to go at any moment but statistically most women will go to the 40 weeks or longer before giving birth.  The ninth month is full of interesting changes in moms body as it prepares for the big event.

Aside from clothes not fitting anymore, I wonder how much bigger this baby can actually get because it seems Doc’s belly is ALL baby.  When you consider the little one may be coming out the natural way it may not be ideal to pass a 10lb+ baby.  At this point the average weight of the developing baby is around 7lbs and their melon is still quite large in proportion to the rest of the body.  Over the next few weeks things should grow to their respective proportion.

All things considered I think we are ready for the new addition to the family.

  • We have the crib and changing table and they are assembled in the baby room
  • Car seat and stroller are purchased
  • Hospital bag is packed
  • Names are short listed, both boys and girls
  • Clothing for the first while are collected
  • Diapers and creams are in the cupboard

Our last party weekend for months to come was this past one.  VwFamly and friends came up to shop and have a little fun.  Doc made the most of it and was on the dance floor at the club past midnight which in my books is very impressive.

Now we wait.

Most annoying gift contest

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 11:00 am

Warning: If you are going to get into this competition with other parents you need to be prepared to take it as well as you can dish it.

The idea here is that you compete with other parents to see who can gift the more annoying gift to each others kids.  For example, you have a birthday party to go to and to make it interesting you decide to have this contest with the other parents attending.  So you shop for something that will drive the hosting parents nuts.  One such item that I can relay is a dinosaur excavation site.  This toy was a brick of sand that contained the skeleton of a dinosaur and came with a hammer and chissel in order to ”dig” it out.  That created quite the mess and scored very high on the annoying index (rating 1-10, 10 being most annoying).  Other items of notable interest would be noise makers such as a set of drums or a tickle me elmo

Ground rules:

  1. The gifted item cannot be disabled or voluntarily smashed by the host
  2. If the young one wants to play with it you can’t say no
  3. Once the item is broken, by way of too much use, it does not have to be repaired
  4. You cannot refuse a gift, but remember you can return the favor

To share some gift ideas leave them in the comment area.  It’s good for a few laughs.
