Week One…The Boss has arrived

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 7:46 pm

The fam has survived the first week of being!

There has been plenty of naping, eating and pooping by all members as we settle into a routine.  Right from day one it was apparent who the Boss was going to be and we have fully accepted this.  The peanut has captivated our attention with her cross eyed stares, we try not to get too close to her face but we can’t help ourselves.  It’s amazing how many hours you can spend just looking at each other.

Special events this past week:

  • Three projectile poos (one hit the target)
  • Three outings, two car rides (one from the hostpital) and two stroller rides
  • Plenty of visitors
  • Two photo shoots

I will review the car seat and stroller as we get more use out of them.  So far it has been a great experience and well worth the extra little $ that it cost us.

  • Car Seat-Peg Perego SIP
  • Stroller-Bugaboo Chameleon (sand color)

I wonder what week two will bring us?

Operation Purple Nurple

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 6:58 pm

No baby yet!

We have had staring contests, rented movies, ate, tried all of the magical labor inducing methods and nothing has worked.  Just as we had suspected, these methods are “a little fluffy.”  Now, on to more important techniques…

Nipple Stimulation…how does this help you get things rolling to labor? Glad you asked.  Gentle rubbing or rolling of the nipple or suckling of the nipples to encourage contractions is called nipple stimulation, AKA the ‘Purple Nurple.’  This sounds interesting, so how does it work to induce labor?  Oxytocin is a hormone that causes contractions and as you ‘rub the nip’ it is released in the body when the breasts are stimulated/nurpled.  After the baby is born, this release is important for returning the uterus to pre-pregnancy size. In labor, the release can be used to stimulate longer or stronger contractions.  The idea is that this method will bring on contractions.  And thus a baby a born sooner than later.  Makes sense I guess.

I know what we’re doing tonight.

Update

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 9:23 am

Quick update:

Doc is still carrying the little one inside and everything is on schedule for an April 10th birthing, hopefully sooner.  Coco has agreed to share his birth date as it is the same day as Doc’s due date.  I will report changes as they happen.

Man Contractions

Filed under: The Beginning — WiseDad @ 11:43 am

39 weeks prego!

Doc thinks that 39wks is really two weeks overdue and that the baby has over stayed its visit.  Judging by the ‘dilly’ the baby is most definately running out of leg space and should really think about making a move, ie into the world.  As each day passes we feel a little more restless and impatient knowing that something could happen at any moment.  Yes, I know that we can’t rush things and that we should just be cool and enjoy the moment but to be honest a belly that big must be a little uncomfortable.  So we started thinking of things we can do to speed things along and just maybe a baby will be born.

By this time in the pregnancy most will start investigating the “tricks of the trade” to induce labor.  Things like more sex, spicy foods, squats (my theory), castor oil, herbs and herbal teas, scare tactics and the list goes on.  On Sunday I made my 5-alarm chili recipe to test one of the theories.  Obviously it didn’t work but I must say it was pretty darn close.  We sat in bed later that evening and both of us started having contractions.  Can men have contractions?  Haha…mine were of a different kind.  Doc was having some very regular painful contractions and at one point we made sure the hospital bag was packed and that everything else was in order just in case.  An hour passed and we still had the timer going but soon after things started to settle and then we both just feel asleep assuming Doc wouldn’t sleep through labor.  We woke in the morning and went about our normal day.  That was kind of exciting!  This was indeed a good sign of things to come.  For dinner this week, chili, curry, spicy tuna rolls, and jerk chicken.

I will keep the site updated with any new happenings over the next week so check back often if you are curious.  When the big event does take place we will try to get the birth announcement out as quick as we can.

Vwfamly has their money on April 4th for delivery.
