October

Filed under: Edmonton Dad Groups, Main — WiseDad @ 5:05 pm

We are heading into our first winter with the peanut and wonder if we are properly prepared.  It’s nice that she is getting big enough to generate more heat making it easier to dress her.  When I say “big” I mean this in age and size.  Approaching the 6month mark on the 9th of October she has doubled her weight since birth.  She will be going in for the official height and weight mesurements in a few weeks and we presume she will achieve 75th percentile.  Fall clothing is moms specialty and we’ll be heading to the mall for some 6-12 month clothing sizes.  Two of our favorite affordable stores are H&M and Old Navy

The month of October also brings with it Halloween and Trick or Treating.  Is 6months too young for trick or treating?  We already have a costume picked out.  It can be home made and requires very little material.  AKA, “Sumo Baby”.  Our main priority at the moment is to help peanut pack on the pounds.  She should be starting on solid foods shortly which may help the process.

Speaking of Solid foods, what is the experience out there.  Where do you start?  What do you start with?  When do you start?  Some of the answers can be found at BabyCenter.ca.  With us it’s the transition from breastfeeding to solids at the 6 month point.

Still working on the SAHD edmonton groups.  I have come across several variations of the idea on the net, mostly in the US but a few in Canada.  I am trying to take things away from these sites in an effort to form my group.  I will keep you posted.

Local Dad Groups

Filed under: Edmonton Dad Groups, Main — WiseDad @ 3:32 pm

I have been talking about organizing a section of my website to host a list of dad groups locally and eventually across Canada.  I’m prepared to “give it a go” and see how successful I am at doing this locally.  Again, I refer to RebelDad and the list of groups across the US.  The idea is to have a link for dad’s to go to in order to find a play group on their area to meet other stay at home dad’s and let their kids play.

First thing to do is add a page/category/links on my sidebar for dad’s to go in order to get contact info for a local group.  I may have to try a few different setups to find one that works.  I’ll work on this the next day or two and see what I come up with.  Secondly, I need to find other stay-at-home dads in the area who are interested in this idea.  It may take a little marketing on my part in order to drum up some interest and get the word out but it can be done.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to proceed feel free to leave a comment.  Does anyone know of any groups near them?
